The champagne corks were already popping.
At least in public, before the season.
But then came the sheer disappointment:
→ Massive vibrations
→ Poor performance
→ Poor reliability
However, the technical cause of the vibrations is a symptom of 𝗱𝘆𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
And here´s why:
→ Mutual expectations unclear – Aston Martin & Honda
→ Rotation of experienced staff – Honda
→ Several changes in leadership – Aston Martin
→ Adrian Newey at times in a triple role – Aston Martin
→ Development started later than everyone else – Aston Martin & Honda
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗿.
You create value when:
→ Workflows & interfaces are clearly defined
→ Everyone knows what they are doing and what they are supposed to do
→ The necessary knowledge & skills are available
𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 - 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿.
But, there is a silver lining.
The Japanese mindset of seeking continuous improvement.
Small optimisations, step by step.
This was already evident at Suzuka and Miami.
And: strong financial backing.
